ABOUT THE DOJO BENCH   by Jimmy Bowden
WARNING:  Because of the particular nature of this product, procedures or techniques appearing herein, you should consult your physician before using the Dojo Bench, it’s procedures or techniques.
 1.      For The Serious Martial Artist.
>    If you are serious about martial arts,  the dojo bench will become a valuable training aid for you.

2.
Allows Longer Meditation In The Traditional Seiza Posture With Less Knee Strain.

>    Many senseis use my dojo bench for the duration of rank test.
4.   Traditional Seating For Group Instruction.
>    Instead of using chairs in your dojo, use the benches.
>    One example is while teaching an assault prevention class to women, during the lecture portion, they sit on the
dojo benches.
5.
A Leg And Ankle Stretcher, Uses Gravity To Help Extend The Stretch With Less Strain On Low Back.
>    Once you get into using your bench, you will discover many new stretching and relaxing techniques.    Here are descriptions of some of the ways I use my dojo bench. I  had my second low back surgery 19 years ago,  since then I have used my dojo bench in conjunction with chiropractic treatment.  At this  point in time, I have completely recovered from my back injury and nearly reached my flexibility as was before  my injury.   I am 67 years old.
·
>
While sitting on the bench, with your legs spread, gradually lean forward for 30 seconds, relaxing and allowing gravity to pull you downward, then pull both feet together and lower your abdomen toward your feet, repeat both parts, three (3) times.·
>
Tuck one foot under the bench; extend the other leg outward, pointing 45° to the flank.  With one hand on your “tucked” thigh, lean forward and grasp your extended ankle with your other hand, while pointing your chin toward your ankle.  Relax and allow gravity to lower your weight toward your extended knee.   Hold for 30 seconds, then repeat.·
>     Lay backward with your lower back touching the lower end of the bench.  Extend your arms over your head. Relax and allow gravity to set in.  You will enjoy this stretch.
These are but a few examples of how I use my bench; I also do push-ups and sit-ups utilizing the bench.
>     As you become more acquainted to your Dojo Bench, you will discover new ways to relax, stretch and meditate.
6.
Made In USA By A Martial Artist.
Ø       This is true, I have studied shotokan karate for over 33 years while instructing for 30.  Since 1997, I have participated in the Senior Advanced Divisions at the AAU Karate, the USAKF and the USANKF in Kata and Kobudo.  At the National Level of competition, I have earned 41 medals, including 20 gold, 10 silver and 11 bronze.  In 2006 I was the “oldest” competitor at AAU Nationals.  I also have completed 10 National Karate Referee Courses and 44 of Shihan Koji Sugimoto’s Referee Trainings.

7.
HAND CRAFTED FROM UNFINISHED FLORIDA CYPRESS.
>     I own a woodworking shop where I make my benches.  The lumber I use is processed right here in Taylor County Florida, home of what was once the world’s largest cypress mill.  I do not apply a finish to the wood, as cypress has its own unique aroma.       edit: January 3, 2007,  kbench.com
