Sensei Vargas began his karate training in 1988 at the Shorinju Ryu Renshinkan Dojo,
Dominican Republic. Shihan Miguel Pena began teaching Shorinju-Ryu there in 1976. When Shihan Pena decided to retired
in 1994, Senseis Borola, Ubri and Soriano began looking for a new master to follow. They found Shihan Koji Sugimoto
of the Shotokan-Kenkojuku style, with Hombu located in Miami, Florida.
Shotokan-Kenkojuku has become the official style of the Dominican Karate Federation
(FEDOKA) under the direction of Mr. Angel Acosta.
There are at least 25 dojos in the Dominican who have now joined the Kenkojuku.
