JUN-SHODAN RANK TEST REQUIREMENTS
A. Must be an active member, of The Shotokan Karate
Dojo - Perry, Florida.
B. May test at The Shotokan Karate Dojo under supervision of Sensei Jimmy
Bowden & Sensei John Hinken.
C. May test 6 months after Ikyu (1st) brown belt test-then only when ready.
D. Must have participated in at least one (1) Florida Sport Karate League
Tournament held outside Perry, Florida
E. When at least 18 years old, you may complete all requirements for Shodan.
F. To wear a Black-Belt w/white-stripe, you must be at least 16 years old and
pass all seven (7) categories:
1. Perform 30 Finger-Tip Push-Ups AND 30 Jack-Knives (V's).
2. Kihon-Basics OR 4-Way Kick
3.
Kumite OR Circle Fight
4. English > Japanese OR Japanese > English Translation
(all these commands are found in our Basic Karate Terminology Brochure)
5. Hangetsu OR Empi
Kata
6. Previous Kata OR Bo Kata
7 One from the following:
- Written Report: A report of your own technique with explanation of how it works,
listing the advantages and disadvantages and be able to demonstrate it's use in kumite. Your report must be completed
with the original and three (3) copies provided to Sensei Jimmy Bowden at least one (1) month prior to your test.
- Board Breaking: must be able to break 1 x 12 pine board-hanging from string with
your punch and kick - three (3) attempts for each technique.
- Explain and Demonstrate Bunkai
(application) from each of your test katas: You pick one from each and one is picked for you from each.
These must be completed before taking your exam:
- Recite
Dojo Kun in Japanese.
- Completed
(in advance) Judge Exam over WKF Revised - Red
& Blue.
- Completed (in advance) Referee Exam
over WKF Revised - Red & Blue.
- Completed (in
advance) Ten No Kata Dai.
